Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for more than 20 years. She's also an accomplished public speaker. Feminist Frequency is a site that hosts videos and commentaries analysing portrayals female characters in popular media and popular. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian as well as an American feminist media critique. She is the creator and executive director of Feminist Frequency which is an education, non-profit website that explores representations of women within popular stories of culture. Aiming to break down the stereotypes associated with women in popular culture, she seeks to bring attention to the targeted harassment of women and the other marginalized groups of individuals in the internet environment. Holding a master's degree in the field of political and social thinking at York University Sarkeesian is also well-known as a sought-after speaking engagement and has given speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. She was fascinated by the gender issue and feminist movements from a very early stage of her life. In 2009, while continuing to study at the university level, she created the Feminist Frequency site. An ambitious woman who wanted to start a web-series examining the gender representation of video games was targeted by an internet-based campaign. The harassment didn't hinder her. The experience only strengthened her in her role as a feminist journalist. To honor the numerous achievements she's made for feministism, she's recognized with numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winning media critic. She also serves as the director and founder of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit group that focuses on pop-culture representations of females.
